Due to Covid the we were unable to have a service at the time of his passing. We will have a Celebration of life for Bill Cooney on May 14th at the First Baptist Church in New Waverly. Visitation at 10 a.m. service at 11 with a lunch to follow. William Edgar Cooney,88, died Mach 26,2020. Bill retired in 1994 after serving as a teacher and later as a counselor in HISD for 35 years. All will remember him for his compassion toward his fellow man, service to his community, sense of humor, and his entertaining qualities. He was a good brother, husband, father, and grandfather. His deep devotion to his Catholic faith is an inspiration to all. Survived by his wife of 24 years Geneva Cooney, New Waverly, daughters; Catherine Elizabeth Wallace and husband Carl Lufkin TX, Margaret Mary Koch and husband Kevin, Evansville IN, sons; James William Cooney and wife Sandy Houston, John Patrick Cooney and wife Mari, Houston, Mathew Michael Cooney, Houston, grandchildren; Julia Rose Scheurer and husband Tim, Katherine Louise Tulloch and husband Peter, Morgan Aengus Wallace and wife Alicyn, Mary Elizabeth Zamora and husband Miguel, Samantha Jane Cooney, Chandler Louise Cooney, Meagan Joy Maultsby and husband Samuel, Caitlyn Marie Cooney, Grayson Elizabeth Koch, Addison Claire Koch, sister; Sheila Tybor, brother; David Cooney and wife Peggy, Kevin Cooney and wife Theresa, six great grandchildren and numerous family and friends. Bill attended Mass regularly at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in New Waverly. He also attended First Baptist church in New Waverly with his wife Geneva, where he played bass guitar at the 11 O'clock service.
