Thelma McClanahan

November 30, 1933 - June 21, 2021

Thelma Ellington McClanahan, 87, passed away peacefully in Palestine, Texas on June 21, 2021. She was born in West Sandy, Texas on Thanksgiving Day, November 30, 1933 to Rev. Obie and Lorean Ellington. She was a lifelong Texan who loved, and was very loved by her family. She was a devoted wife to James McClanahan, Jr. for 61 years until his death in September 2012. She now joins him and their infant daughter, Sandra Kay, in their heavenly home. She was a member of University Heights Baptist Church in Huntsville, Texas since the early 1980's, and there held firmly to her Christian faith. Thelma relocated to Palestine in August 2018 to be near her daughter, who lovingly cared for her needs these past few years. Thelma is survived by her brother Miller Gene Ellington, her daughter Linda S. Dolbey (David), son James Bradford McClanahan, III (Lisa), granddaughters Stacey Marshall (Britt), and Aimee Marie McClanahan, great-grandchildren Alexis Hernandez (Alfonzo), Arwen Fraser, Mason Marshall, Ava Fraser, great-great-grandchildren Landon, Liam and Aria Hernandez, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Thelma will be remembered by all as a gracious, beautiful, elegant, dignified, and wise Christian woman. Services will be held at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 Normal Park Dr., Huntsville, Texas 77340, Tuesday, June 29, 2021 with visitation from 9:00-10:00 and funeral service at 10:00. Pastor Richard Rogers of University Heights Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery, 13401 Eastex Fwy., Houston Texas.
