Royce Gordon Adams Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Royce Gordon Adams, 84, of Huntsville, TX, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, May 22, 2022. He was born March 14, 1938 to Alver and Carrie Adams in Weldon, Texas. His family moved and settled in Huntsville where he graduated from Huntsville High School in 1956 then served in the US Air Force from 1956-1960. While stationed in California at Hamilton Air Force Base, Royce came home on leave and married Lilla Sue Mitchell in January 1957. They returned to California where they started their family. After serving in the Air Force in 1960 and he and Sue returned to Texas. They finally settled in Carrollton, Texas and after Sue finished her degree, Royce went to North Texas State University where he graduated with a Bachelors in Business Administration in 1972. After working, in the Dallas area for over 20 years as a HR/Personnel Manager for both International Paper & Gifford-Hill-American, they returned to Huntsville where they lived on their farm near Shiro, Texas. Royce worked for Walker County for several years and then began a new career as a music minister. He served in two churches, Westway Baptist Church & First Baptist Church Onalaska. Royce loved serving the Lord through music. He loved singing with his wife, Sue and they harmonized beautifully. In 1997, Royce and Sue started the Adams Trio with family friend, Fredell Edens of Huntsville. For over 10 years, they traveled and sang at churches and conventions in surrounding states. During this time, Royce served as the President of both the Walker County Singing Convention and the Texas State Gospel Singing Convention (2007 - 2010). Royce was a Master Mason for more than fifty years. Royce was preceded in death by his wife of 62 ½ years, Lilla Sue Adams, infant son, Kevin Earnest Adams, parents Alver and Carrie Adams, sisters: Consuelo Hall, Gordie Boren and brothers: Clint Adams, Charlie Adams, Ford Adams, and Virgil Adams. Royce is survived by his children - Karen Adams, Kay Andino, Kenneth Adams, Kathy & TJ Nichols; grandchildren - Crystal & Robert Andersen, Jennifer Andino, Hilary & Andy Burtch, Kyle & Katie Adams, Lauren & Lyle Farnsworth, Leslie Adams, Abbey Nichols, Emily & Josh Sullivan, Amanda Adams, Maria & Jake Evans; great grandchildren - Eli, Tyler, Evie, Kamden, Christian, Arlen, and Bronwyn; his sister, LaVerne Dixon of Huntsville and brother, James & Kathy Adams of Fulshear, Texas as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, May 31, 2022 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm and the funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 10:00 am both will be held at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas.
