August 18, 1931 - April 7, 2021
Marilyn Joyce Hancock was born August 18, 1931 in Clarence, MO to Mildred and William Gosney. She was the second oldest of six children – Betty, Marilyn, Mildred Ilene, William Jr., Robert, followed by Richard. They moved from Missouri to Rock Island, IL where her father pursued a career as a butcher and a local grocery store owner. Shortly after high school, she married Kenneth Edwards and had two children – Michael and Linda. Skokie became their home a few years later where Marilyn worked at Korehumel Steel and Aluminum running the accounting division. In 1965, she married Robert Frank. They enjoyed bowling with friends and church members. They moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1972, where he and Marilyn opened an insurance agency. They worked tirelessly building their agency until Robert’s death in 1987. In 1989, Marilyn married Derrick Hancock where she maintained the insurance agency and Derrick pursued his structural engineering career. They were both Elk Club members supporting their community and enjoying all aspects of membership. In 1992, Marilyn and Derrick moved to Spring, TX to be closer to their grandchildren – living just a few streets away. They never missed an opportunity to cheer for their granddaughters. After their youngest granddaughter moved away to college, they found their dream community in Walden where they developed decades-long friendships. She was a loving friend and aunt, wonderful mother, and adoring grandmother. Marilyn passed away peacefully in her home on April 7, 2021 surrounded by many of her family members. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
