March 7, 1951 - October 12, 2021
Marilyn Claire Miller Harper was born March 7, 1951, in Los Angeles, California to Wiley Edward Miller and Lorraine Lemoine Miller. On October 12, 2021, surrounded by loved ones it was evident Marilyn was in the presence of the Lord when she smiled a big smile as she took her last breath. Marilyn was the fourth of eleven siblings. When she was nine, her family moved from Los Angeles, California to Riverside, Texas to be closer to her father’s family. She inherited her mother’s loving sprit. Helping care for her siblings then marrying Joseph Harper at a young age, Marilyn carried her tender care and love into the raising of her four children, Tammy, Vicki, Richard, and Randy. Marilyn and Joe loved to take trips with their kids, grandkids, and other family members, traveling to California, Colorado, Utah, Florida and any where they could find adventure. Marilyn tirelessly served in her church where she taught many years of seminary, women’s group, and Sunday school, to name a few. She mentored and touched the lives of many local youth and forming life-long friendships. Most of her free time was spent visiting and caring for friends and family, proving her dependable and unconditional love for others. Marilyn’s personal relationship with Jesus was plain to see by the way she lived her life. She was not only a believer in the Word but a doer. The fruits of the spirit; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control paint a beautiful picture of who she was. Marilyn continued to show her selflessness even as she courageously endured a 12-year battle with Alzheimer’s. Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, Wiley Edward Miller and Lorraine Josephine Lemoine Miller; son in-law Daniel Craig Killingsworth; brother in-law Joey Anderson; and sister in-law Sharlene Miller. Marilyn is survived by her ex-husband Joseph Harper; children Tammy Gustafson and husband Ken, Vicki Killingsworth Thompson and husband Charles, Richard Harper and wife Nicole, and Randy Harper and fiancé Whitney; grand children Nathaniel Ross Gustafson, Natalie Mae Salmon, Ethan Harper, Ellie Harper, Claire Harper, Kalyn Killingsworth, Kyli Killingsworth and Madison Thompson; great grandchildren Coltyn Gustafson, Kamryn Struchen, Cannyn Gustafson, Keelie Salmon, Kimber Salmon, and Bryson Salmon. Siblings Paul (Alice) Miller, Lenore (Garnett) Davis, Louie (Paula) Miller, Jeannine Anderson, Wilma (Bill) Garrett, Michael (Buddy) Widner, Greg Miller, Brian Miller, Johnny Miller, and Celeste (Jimmy) Wood. Marilyn will lie in state on Thursday, October 14, 2021 from 8:00am to 5:00pm at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, TX. Visitation will be on Friday, October 15 at Black Jack Cemetery at 1:00pm. Services will begin at 2:00pm. Memorial condolences may be made to the family at www.shmfh.com.
