Kay O'Banion Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Roberta "Kay" O'Banion, 81, of Huntsville, Texas went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 3, 2022. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, friend, grandmother and great-grandmother. Kay was born September 21, 1940 in Jacksonville, Texas. Her parents were A.C. and Katie Potts. Kay graduated from Carlisle High School and attended Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. She worked for nearly ten years as the secretary to the Director of the Children's ministry at First Baptist Church in Pasadena, Texas. She also volunteered for over twenty-five years in the Children's Ministry there. She was married to John William O'Banion for 46 years. Their blended family included her children Terry Durrett, Kathy Harrington, DeeAnn Powell, and John's children Brad O'Banion, and Susan Hall. They resided many years in Pasadena, Texas. After retirement, Kay and John moved to Huntsville, Texas. They volunteered with Campers on Mission. They would help build and repair churches or church camps all around Texas. This was a true ministry for them, where they built many lifelong friendships. Kay also volunteered for over twenty years at Huntsville Memorial Hospital. She was a devout Christian woman who shared God's word and worked to see others become believers and followers of Christ. Kay is survived by her sister, Margaret Peacock and her husband Raymond, her brother Bud Potts and wife Mary. She is also survived by her children, Susan (Jason) Hall, Rosie O'Banion, Terry (Renea) Durrett, Kathy (BJ) Harrington and DeeAnn (Lance) Powell. Grandchildren Erin (Colin) DuCharme, Lauren Hall, Kelly O'Banion, Heather (Rick) Scammon, Matthew Durrett, Sara (Michael) O'Beirne, Mandi (Ash) Anderson, Clay Harrington, Andrew (Mary) Woitena, Mason Powell, Dawson Powell, and Caitlyn Woitena. There are nine great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Barbara Potts and sister Bobbie Mason and her husband Ed Mason. Visitation and funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 8, at 10:00 a.m. with service at 11:00 a.m. at Northside Baptist Church, 1207 FM 980, Huntsville, TX 77320. Burial will be at Clines Prairie Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made in Kay's name to Northside Baptist Church, 1207 FM 980, Huntsville, TX 77320.
